Prep & Pros Pro Gen AI Drafting with Custom Prompts

You can upload custom (or BYO) Gen AI prompts to Patent Bots and then easily use them from Microsoft Word across all of your work.  Using custom prompts allows you to implement your own style and enforce consistency across all of your work.

Your custom prompts will include the current text of your patent application in Word, and you can optionally provide an invention disclosure document.  This allows you to provide the Gen AI assistant with the information needed to provide high-quality responses to your prompts.

All of our Gen AI tools have zero data retention.  Although we are processing your Word document and a provided invention disclosure document, this information is never stored on a server.

Uploading Prompts

Your subscription admin can upload prompts for you on the subscription management page.  After the prompts are uploaded, they will be available to all users at your organization.

Prompt Features

These are the primary features of our custom prompts:

  • We automatically provide the assistant with the content of your patent application and invention disclosure document so that the assistant has the information it needs to answer your question.
  • For asking precise questions, we have the following placeholders: {{CLAIMS}}, {{INDEPENDENT_CLAIMS}}, and {{FIRST_CLAIM}}. If you don't use one these placeholders, we will include all of your claims at the beginning of the prompt.
  • To make the Gen AI responses more useful, we recommend including language like this near the end of your custom prompts:

Only provide the requested answer. Do not add any explanations. Do not offer to provide other information.

Example Prompts

We provide three prompts for you called "Patent Bots Title", "Patent Bots Background", and "Patent Bots Abstract".  These are simple prompts to generate those portions of your application from the text of your claims.  You can use these as starting points for your own prompts. Here is the text of these prompts:

Patent Bots Title:

You are a patent attorney who needs to draft a title of a patent application.

Here are the independent claims of the patent application:

Write a title for the patent application using the above claims. Do not use the type of any of the claims (e.g., system or method) in the title.  Provide only the title and no other text.

Patent Bots Background:

You are a patent attorney who needs to draft the background section of a patent application.

Here are the independent claims of the patent application:

Write a background section for the patent application based on the above claims. Include only a description of previous approaches to these claims in the background section. Do not state what the invention is or what the invention aims to cover. Do not refer to the present invention ever. Do not include any statements about a need or needs. Instead, write at least 3 paragraphs describing previous approaches and end the background section with a sentence summarizing the previous approaches and the following statement: "However, none of these approaches have provided a comprehensive solution that combines the features described in this disclosure."

Patent Bots Abstract:

You are a patent attorney who needs to draft the abstract of a patent application.

Here are the independent claims of the patent application:

What Gets Sent to the Gen AI Assistant

The prompt that you upload is the starting point for building a more complete prompt that we send to the Gen AI assistant.  Here is what actually gets sent to the Gen AI assistant:
