Patent Bots' tools are designed to integrate into your workflow with minimal training or adjustment to your drafting style. That said, we do have a few suggestions to help you get the most out of using Patent Bots.
1. Reference Labels
Three-digit reference labels (also called element or part numbers) are strongly recommended. This helps avoid confusion with other numbers that are not reference labels. Refer to this article for details on strict reference labels: https://help.patentbots.com/hc/en-us/articles/10709638609179-What-are-strict-ref-labels- .
2. Word Automatic Numbering and Cross-References
Manual numbering for claims instead of auto numbering is strongly recommended. We also recommend that you do not use cross-references for claim dependencies. Instead, use our automated claim renumbering to fix claim numbers as needed.
3. Autocomplete Function
Type a reference label followed by "//" and our tools will automatically insert the text previously used with the label. For instance, typing "100//" will autocomplete to "widget 100."
4. Comments in Claims
Use "***" at the start and end of paragraphs to include comments in claims. The text between the asterisks will be treated as comments and ignored.
5. “The” vs. “Said”
Using 'the' instead of 'said' in your claims is advised. In instances where 'said' is used, such as 'said widget,' our proofreading process will replace it with 'the.'
6. Placeholders for GPT Generation
Use our GPT generation tool by inserting these placeholders in your Word document:
{{TITLE}}
{{BACKGROUND}}
{{ABSTRACT}}
When GPT Generation is selected in the Generate tab of our drafting tools in the Word add-in, our tool will replace these placeholders with text generated by GPT based on claim 1.
7. Extracting Phrases for Reference Labels and Antecedent Basis Analysis
Phrases are extracted using machine learning that identifies nouns and noun phrases. For best results, check for proper use of commas and hyphens. This will help us correctly extract the phrases. We don’t currently support acronyms when extracting the names.
